Born and raised in Alabama, Murray Fincher attended Dartmouth College and graduated from Birmingham-Southern College. Starting out as a reporter and copy editor of The Birmingham News, Fincher went to work for a major corporation, where he was put in charge of Louisiana operations, overseeing the public and political relations involving local, state, and national government entities, including Congress. He was president of the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce and a regent of Loyola University, and he served a four-year term on the Louisiana Judiciary Commission by appointment of the Louisiana Supreme Court. He is now retired and lives on Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, where he is owns and operates a small real estate company.
